Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
This Chardonnay comes from the Groth family’s sustainably farmed Hillview Vineyard, just a short distance from their Oakville Estate. Purchased in 1982 in search of great Merlot, the family soon realized the site was equally exceptional for Chardonnay. Influenced by the cooling breezes from nearby San Pablo Bay and shaped by distinctive soils, the vineyard produces fruit that balances generous ripeness with freshness and a subtle mineral edge.
Most of the fruit was whole-cluster pressed to capture delicate aromatics and a supple texture, while about 15% was destemmed prior to pressing to add structure and intensity. After settling, the juice was fermented and aged in French oak barrels. Eight months of aging on the lees built texture and complexity before the wine was blended and prepared for bottling.
Aromatic and layered, with notes of orange zest, toasted hazelnut, wet stone, and Anjou pear. The palate reveals kiwi, lemon curd, and ripe orchard fruit, supported by subtle salinity and a gentle hint of fresh bread on the finish. Beautiful alongside scallop crudo, crab cakes, roast duck with pear, or a creamy squash risotto.
