Founded in 1888 in Cuneo, at the foot of the Italian Alps, Bordiga has spent well over a century making some of Piedmont's most characterful spirits and liqueurs. The distillery has a particular affinity for the mountain herbs that grow in the surrounding region, and Genepy is perhaps the most distinctly Alpine expression of the lot. Think of it as a little taste of the mountains, preferably enjoyed after a very good meal.
Genepy takes its name from a family of aromatic plants in the Artemisia genus, traditionally gathered in the Alps and prized for their distinctive herbal character. Bordiga uses these botanicals to create a liqueur that balances natural sweetness with the pleasantly bitter, earthy qualities of the herbs. It's a wonderfully old-fashioned drink, in the very best sense.
Wild herbs, chamomile and mint mingle with citrus peel, delicate florals and a little mountain spice. There's a lovely sweetness at first, followed by a refreshing herbal bitterness that keeps everything lively. The finish is long, aromatic and gently warming. Traditionally enjoyed as a digestif, it's delicious lightly chilled or over ice, and makes a fabulous addition to cocktails calling for something a little more adventurous than the usual herbal liqueur.
P.s. Also a great alternative to Green Chartreuse!
