Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Domaine Moreau-Naudet has become something of a cult favourite among Chablis lovers, and for good reason. The late Stéphane Moreau championed a more patient, hands-off approach to winemaking, creating Chardonnays with an unusual combination of texture, energy and personality. Today, his wife Virginie continues that philosophy, producing some of the most compelling wines in the region. Even the village Chablis is a rather special bottle.
The 2024 comes from vineyards around Chablis, where the region's famous limestone soils give Chardonnay its distinctive character. Moreau-Naudet takes a little more time with its wines than many neighbouring producers, allowing extended contact with the lees to develop depth and texture. The result is a Chablis with more substance than you might expect, without sacrificing the freshness that makes the appellation so irresistible.
Lemon, crisp pear and green apple lead into white flowers, a little almond and a subtle savoury note. There's a lovely rounded quality through the middle, balanced by lively acidity and a cool, stony finish that keeps everything beautifully focused. A Chablis that punches well above its village classification; try it with oysters, scallops, roast chicken or a generous plate of moules-frites.
