Grapes: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella
From the Valpolicella Classico hills of Veneto, Michele Castellani is a family-run estate known for traditional, measured expressions of the region’s wines. Their approach balances richness with freshness, allowing each style—from Valpolicella to Amarone—to retain clarity and drinkability.
The “San Michele” Ripasso is made using the traditional method of refermenting Valpolicella wine on the skins of Amarone, adding depth, texture, and structure. The 2019 is then aged in oak to integrate the richer elements while preserving lift and balance.
Supple and expressive, it shows notes of ripe cherry, plum, and dried herbs, with hints of spice and cocoa. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with soft tannins and a rounded texture, balanced by fresh acidity and a gently warming finish. A natural pairing for pasta with ragù, roasted meats, or hard cheeses.
