Grapes: Shiraz, with Cinsault and Grenache

Southern African red blend; bright, earthy, and beautifully balanced

From the rugged hills of the Swartland, Adi Badenhorst crafts wines that celebrate the wild heart of South Africa. His Secateurs range — named after the vineyard shears every grower keeps close — embodies his philosophy of honest farming and minimal intervention. The red blend is a vibrant, unpretentious expression of old-vine fruit, sunshine, and soulful winemaking.

The grapes come from dry-farmed, low-yielding bush vines rooted in granite soils. Fermented naturally with whole clusters and aged in old oak casks, the wine captures Swartland’s texture and energy without heaviness. No fining, no flash — just pure fruit and terroir.

In the glass, it opens with notes of dark plum, wild cherry, and baking spice, evolving into hints of rosemary and cracked pepper. The palate is juicy and supple, with ripe fruit balanced by fresh acidity and gentle tannins. The finish is long and savory, inviting another sip. Approachable yet distinctive — a red that’s as comfortable on a weeknight table as it is beside a braai.
