Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Domaine Moreau-Naudet has earned a devoted following among Chablis lovers, thanks to wines that offer a little more personality than the region's famously crisp reputation might suggest. The late Stéphane Moreau developed a distinctive approach to Chardonnay, giving his wines time to find their feet rather than rushing them into bottle. Today, his wife Virginie continues that tradition, producing some of the most sought-after wines in Chablis.
Forêts is part of the celebrated Montmains Premier Cru vineyard, where Chardonnay takes on a particularly compelling combination of richness and tension. The 2024 benefits from the domaine's patient approach in the cellar, with extended time on the lees building texture and complexity. It's a wine that manages to feel substantial without losing the lively character that makes great Chablis so appealing.
Lemon, ripe pear and yellow apple lead into white flowers, toasted almond and a subtle touch of spice. There's a lovely breadth to the palate, but also a firm, stony quality that gives the wine definition and carries it into a long, savoury finish. A serious step up from village Chablis, with plenty of potential to develop in the cellar. Beautiful with scallops, lobster, roast turbot or chicken with a creamy mushroom sauce.
