Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
Who would have thought that some of the world's most exciting Pinot Noir would come from the wild landscapes of Patagonia? Founded by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, whose family is behind Tuscany's legendary Sassicaia, Bodega Chacra has transformed old vineyards in Argentina's Río Negro Valley into a source of exceptional wines. With biodynamic farming and a philosophy of minimal intervention, Chacra has become one of South America's most compelling producers.
Cincuenta y Cinco takes its name from the vineyard's planting year, 1955. These old, ungrafted Pinot Noir vines grow in the sandy soils of the Río Negro Valley, where warm days, cool nights and persistent Patagonian winds create remarkable growing conditions. The 2024 combines the concentration of old-vine fruit with the freshness and precision that have become hallmarks of Chacra's wines.
Fragrant red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry mingle with rose petals, dried herbs and a subtle earthy spice. The palate is silky and beautifully defined, with delicate tannins, vibrant acidity and an intriguing mineral quality. There's an almost weightless elegance here, despite the wine's impressive depth and lingering savoury finish. Wonderful with duck, roast chicken, wild mushrooms or grilled salmon. A Pinot Noir that makes a compelling case for looking well beyond Burgundy!
