Dark Arts is a blending, rebarreling, and finishing house in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. Inspired by the alchemists of old, their Master Blenders wield underutilized maturation and blending techniques to transform wood, fire, grain and water into liquid gold. Using equal parts mastery and belief in the unknown, we procure high-quality ingredients, create custom blends, and age them in unconventional barrels to craft unique and elevated whiskeys.
This 7-year-old Indiana rye (95% Rye. 5% Malted Barley) was finished in toasted Amburana casks, then re-barreled in maple syrup casks, and bottled at cask strength. This is a limited-edition release with an approximate yield of 3,000 bottles.
On the nose, this is full of Fresh baked gingerbread, spiced cherry, with hints of sweet buttercream icing. On the palate, maple syrup intertwines with the complexity of rye, creating a rift of bold flavors, think red gumdrops, caramelized sugar, a wave of holiday spice and warmth.
