Grapes: 70% Marsanne & 30% Roussanne
Maxime Graillot grew up surrounded by the vineyards of the Northern Rhône, where his father Alain helped establish Crozes-Hermitage as a source of serious, characterful wines. With Domaine des Lises, Maxime has carved out a reputation of his own, bringing a thoughtful, hands-on approach to a region where Syrah usually gets all the attention. His white Crozes-Hermitage is a lovely reminder that the appellation has plenty to offer beyond its famous reds.
The 2023 brings together the Rhône's classic white varieties, Marsanne and Roussanne, creating a wine that balances generous texture with a welcome sense of freshness. It's a distinctly different proposition from Chardonnay, with a more savoury, floral personality and a richness that comes from the grapes themselves rather than any need for overt oak.
White peach, ripe pear and a little quince lead into almond, honeysuckle and a gentle touch of spice. There's a lovely rounded quality to the palate, but enough acidity to give the wine definition, with a slightly nutty, savoury finish that invites another sip. A wonderful alternative for anyone who loves textured white Burgundy but wants to explore something a little different. Try it with roast chicken, grilled sea bass, scallops or a creamy mushroom risotto.
