Grapes: Pinot Noir (60%), Trousseau (35%) and Poulsard (5%)
Domaine du Pélican is the Jura project of Burgundy’s Domaine Marquis d’Angerville, established in Arbois in 2012 after Guillaume d’Angerville became fascinated by the region’s wines. Rather than treating the Jura as Burgundy’s quirky neighbor, the domaine has embraced its indigenous varieties and distinctive terroirs, producing wines that feel polished and precise while remaining very much at home in Arbois.
Trois Cépages has been part of the domaine from the beginning, bringing together the Jura’s three traditional red grapes. For 2024, Pinot Noir provides the backbone, with a generous helping of Trousseau and just a splash of Poulsard. The fruit comes from Montigny-lès-Arsures and the wine is matured in older barrels, keeping oak firmly in the background.
Light on its feet but certainly not short on personality, this is all about red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, with floral notes, dried herbs and a little savory spice appearing as it opens. Fine tannins and bright acidity make it wonderfully easy to drink; and a slight chill wouldn’t hurt. Brilliant with charcuterie, roast chicken, mushrooms or a plate of Comté.
