Domaine Marquis d’Angerville may be synonymous with Volnay, but its holdings extend across the village boundary into Meursault. Santenots is one of Burgundy’s more curious vineyards: planted to Pinot Noir, it can carry the Volnay name, while Chardonnay grown here is bottled as Meursault. For d’Angerville, it offers a rare chance to apply the domaine’s restrained, site-focused approach to white Burgundy.
The 2024 Meursault Santenots Premier Cru comes from Chardonnay planted on the limestone-rich slopes of the vineyard. The domaine keeps the élevage measured, looking for texture and complexity without allowing oak to overwhelm the natural freshness of the wine — particularly important in a vintage whose appeal lies as much in energy as concentration.
Pear, lemon and crisp yellow apple open into white flowers, almond and a subtle touch of spice. There’s classic Meursault generosity through the middle, but this stays beautifully controlled, with bright acidity and a cool mineral note tightening everything toward the finish. Elegant rather than showy, and likely to become even more expressive with time. Try it with scallops, roast turbot, lobster or chicken with morels.
