Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Domaine Moreau-Naudet is one of those Chablis producers we can't help getting excited about. Stéphane Moreau built the domaine's reputation by challenging the idea that Chablis should always be lean, simple and made for immediate drinking. Following his untimely death, his wife Virginie took the reins, continuing to make wines with remarkable character and a refreshingly individual approach. Even the humble Petit Chablis gets plenty of attention here.
Petit Chablis may sit at the beginning of the appellation hierarchy, but don't let that fool you. The 2024 benefits from the domaine's patient approach to winemaking, with time on the lees bringing an extra dimension of texture to Chardonnay grown on the region's limestone soils. It's a wine that delivers the freshness you'd hope for, but with a little more substance than the name might suggest.
Crisp green apple, lemon zest and pear meet delicate white flowers and a subtle mineral note. There's a lovely brightness to the palate, with just enough roundness to soften the edges before a clean, mouthwatering finish. Wonderfully refreshing and dangerously easy to drink, this is exactly the sort of bottle we'd keep chilled and ready for oysters, shrimp, grilled fish or a big bowl of salty fries.
