Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
François Millet knows Chambolle-Musigny rather well. After more than three decades overseeing winemaking at the legendary Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, including its extraordinary Musigny Grand Cru, he's now joined forces with his son Adrien on a new Burgundian adventure. Their small négociant project gives them the freedom to explore individual vineyards across the region, and Les Fouchères brings François back to the village where he made his name.
Chambolle-Musigny is celebrated for Pinot Noir that favours perfume and finesse over sheer power, and Les Fouchères offers a particularly appealing expression of that character. The generous 2023 vintage brings lovely fruit concentration, while the Millets' measured approach allows the wine's more delicate qualities to shine. There's substance here, but nothing feels overworked.
Wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry meet violet, rose petal and a little earthy spice. The palate is beautifully silky, with fine tannins and fresh acidity giving the fruit shape without interrupting its elegance. A subtle savoury quality emerges through the long, graceful finish. This is the sort of Burgundy that reminds us why Chambolle has such a devoted following. Give it a little time in the glass and enjoy with roast duck, guinea fowl, wild mushrooms or a particularly good roast chicken.
