Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
François Millet spent more than three decades as the winemaker at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, helping produce some of Burgundy's most celebrated wines. Now, alongside his son Adrien, he's embarked on a new chapter with a small négociant project exploring vineyards beyond the famous names of the Côte d'Or. It's an exciting opportunity to experience the touch of one of Burgundy's great winemakers in some rather unexpected places.
Les Grands Poisots is a village-level vineyard in Volnay, a Côte de Beaune appellation famous for Pinot Noir with perfume, elegance and a wonderfully delicate touch. The 2023 comes from a generous growing season, with the Millets favouring a gentle approach in the cellar to preserve the grape's more nuanced character. The result is a wine with plenty of charm, but also the structure and complexity to make things interesting.
Red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry meet violet, gentle spice and a little woodland earthiness. There's a lovely silkiness to the palate, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity giving the fruit definition. The finish is long, graceful and gently savoury. A beautiful Burgundy for duck, roast chicken, wild mushrooms or a particularly good plate of charcuterie.
