Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
After more than three decades making some of Burgundy's most celebrated wines at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, François Millet has teamed up with his son Adrien for a new adventure. Their small négociant project explores vineyards across Burgundy, including some lesser-known corners that offer plenty of excitement for Pinot Noir lovers. Les Martennes is a wonderful example of why it's worth looking beyond the region's famous village names.
The Hautes-Côtes de Nuits sits above the Côte de Nuits, where higher elevations and cooler conditions give Pinot Noir a particularly lively personality. Les Martennes captures that freshness, with the Millets bringing a gentle, considered approach to winemaking that favours elegance over extraction. It's a Burgundy that feels wonderfully approachable without sacrificing character.
Red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry meet violet, a little spice and a subtle earthy note. Light on its feet, with fine tannins and bright acidity, there's a lovely purity to the fruit and a gently savoury finish. Give it a slight chill and serve with roast chicken, duck, mushroom dishes or a generous plate of charcuterie. A brilliant introduction to the Millets' wines, and a reminder that some of Burgundy's most enjoyable bottles come from unexpected places.
