Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Jean-Philippe Fichet may be firmly associated with Meursault, but some of the most interesting bottles in his range come from further afield. His Rully Blanc takes the same thoughtful approach found in his more famous Côte de Beaune wines and applies it to the Côte Chalonnaise, a part of Burgundy that can offer tremendous value for Chardonnay lovers.
The 2024 comes from Rully, where Chardonnay typically finds a slightly leaner, brighter expression than in Meursault. Fichet gives the wine enough time and space in the cellar to build texture without obscuring that freshness, resulting in a white Burgundy that feels polished but not overworked.
Lemon, crisp pear and green apple lead the way, followed by white flowers, a little almond and a cool, stony note. There’s a gentle creaminess through the middle, cut by lively acidity and a clean, mouthwatering finish. Exactly the sort of Burgundy to keep within easy reach — try it with roast chicken, grilled fish, scallops or a simple plate of cheese.
